Materials for Continuous Casters
Weldclad 3
A super 12 Cr alloy for multi-layer build up of continuous caster rolls. The alloy exhibits excellent resistance to thermal fatigue, corrosion and wear. Weldclad 3 is suitable for cladding new or for refurbishing rolls of all common base material types.
Weldclad 3M2L
This is a modified version of Weldclad 3, used for manufacturing of new continuous caster rollers. 3M2L enables a full surface composition to be achieved in only 2 layers of welding. 3M2L is suitable for 0.4% C base materials.
Weldclad 3M2H
Again, this is a modified version of Weldclad 3, however 3M2H is used for manufacturing new continuous caster rollers. 3M2H enables a full surface composition to be achieved in only 2 layers of welding. 3M2H is suitable for 0.2% C base materials.
Weldclad 18
A super 12 Cr alloy, similar to a 410NiMo composition. Used for multi-layer build up of continuous caster rolls. Excellent resistance to thermal fatigue and corrosion with good wear properties. Suitable for cladding new rolls or for refurbishing used rolls of all common base material types.
Weldclad 8
A high carbon super 12 Cr alloy for multi layer build up of continuous caster rolls. Excellent wear resistance, and resistance to tempering. However, Weldclad 8 exhibits less corrosion and crack resistance than Weldclad 3. Weldclad 8 is suitable for rolls without external cooling in the run out area of the caster.
Weldclad 2000
A new super 12 Cr alloy employed for multi-layer build up of continuous caster rolls. Weldclad 2000 combines the excellent wear resistance and resistance to tempering of Weldclad 8 with the thermal fatigue and corrosion resistance offered by Weldclad 3. Weldclad 2000 is suitable for new or refurbished rolls of all common base material types.
Weldclad 900
A high Ni Cr alloy developed by Weldclad for cladding of 'Foot' or 'Zero Segment ' rollers. Weldclad 900 has excellent resistant to wear & chemical attack from mould powders and chlorides.
Materials for Hot Rolling Mills
Weldclad 15
A buffer material used for welding of high C base materials (up to 1.2% C.) Weldclad 15 is generally used in conjunction with Weldclad 1, 4 or 17.
Weldclad 1
A general purpose alloy that gives moderate resistance to abrasion, and good thermal fatigue properties. The material gives equivalent or superior wear properties to forged and cast steels.
Weldclad 1 is suitable for general hot and cold applications, blooming and slabbing mill rolls, scale-breaker rolls and auxiliary rolls.
Weldclad 17
Weldclad 17 has superior abrasion resistance to Weldclad 1, and also exhibits excellent resistance to thermal fatigue.
The alloy is suitable for pinch rolls, edger rolls, blooming, slabbing mill rolls, early roughing stands, HSM slabbing-mill rolls and plate-mill leveller and back-up rolls.
Weldclad 4
Weldclad 4 has greater abrasion resistance to both Weldclad 1 and Weldclad 17, and also demonstrates excellent resistance to thermal-fatigue.
Weldclad is suitable for pinch rolls, blooming, slabbing mill rolls, early roughing stands, HSM slabbing-mill rolls, tube mill elongator rolls, Bronx reeler rolls, plate-mill leveller and back-up rolls.
Special care must be taken when welding this alloy. It requires a high pre-heat temperature, and the component must be kept at temperature throughout the welding process.
Weldclad 8
A high carbon, super 12 Cr alloy used for multi-layer build up applications. Weldclad 8 exhibits excellent wear resistance, and resistance to tempering.
It is suitable for table rolls and run-out rollers. It can be used on pinch rolls where only mild steel products are being rolled.
