Roll Welding Consumables and Welding Machines
Weldclad’s involvement in the development of roll welding consumables dates back to the early 1970’s when British Steel (now Corus) first began to develop welding materials capable of extending the service life of rollers in high wear environments.
The roll welding materials project was started at, what was then, British Steel’s River Don works, and Weldclad personnel were involved right at the beginning of these early studies. Some time later, British Steel decided they had taken the project as far as they felt necessary, and the roll welding division became a commercial enterprise under the banner of Sarclad. At that time Sarclad were involved in all aspects of instrumentation and maintenance equipment for steel plants & the addition of roll welding fitted nicely with their product range.
Over a number of years the roll welding technology was refined and perfected, developing a healthy commercial interest of its own. So when Sarclad’s focus changed and it decided to concentrate its efforts purely on the maintenance equipment side of their business, those key individuals who had been involved from the start formed a new company, Weldclad, and took the roll welding project into a new phase.
Around this time, what would become a strong commercial and technical relationship was being formed between Corewire Ltd and Weldclad. Corewire’s experience in welding wire manufacture was put to good use in Weldclad’s markets and both organisations thrived, then some years ago the Weldclad brand, key personnel and technology became a part of Corewire. Since then the Weldclad brand has been developed still further with the introduction of new welding products, new applications and new markets so that today over 250,000 rolls, operating in every continent of the planet, are using Weldclad welding consumables.
