Materials for Forge Die Welding
Forgeweld 2
This is a H13 type material designed for applications between 50 & 56 HRc. The tempering temperature may be reduced so that the weld hardness can be 4 - 6 HRc harder than the parent material. Machining is by spark erosion or high-speed milling.
Forgeweld 3
A 2% Cr, 1% Mo material for applications between 33 & 38 HRc
This material offers a machinable weld when tempered for blocks that are too large or costly for spark erosion. Also it is an ideal, cost-effective means of repairing dies that are used in short run or jobbing shops.
Forgeweld 4
A 9% Cr, 0.1C wire with excellent toughness and crack resistance; designed for applications between 38 & 45 HRc
This consumable is used for applications that require a high hot-hardness and that can expect to experience thermal shock. Machining is normally by spark erosion or high-speed milling, but shallow dies can be conventionally milled with perseverance.
